The Turkish Food Codex Consumer Information and Labeling Regulation Guide’s inclusion of regulations concerning plant-based foods was welcomed.
ISTANBUL (IGFA) – The Plant-Based Foods Association (BİTKİDEN), which is steadfastly pursuing its efforts to ensure plant-based foods play a pioneering role in the transformation of the food system through a sustainable and scientific approach, welcomed the inclusion of regulations on plant-based foods in the Turkish Food Codex Consumer Information and Labeling Regulation Guide .
The Consumer Perception Survey conducted last year in Turkey by the Plant-Based Foods Global Alliance (PBFGA), of which BİTKİDEN is also a member, revealed that plant-based foods are increasingly preferred in our country.
According to the survey, 44% of consumers stated that they consumed more plant-based foods compared to the previous year. This growing interest highlights the importance of plant-based foods among consumers, while also revealing the need for accurate information.
With the new regulation, Ebru Akdağ, Chair of the Board of Directors of BİTKİDEN, stated that consumers will have easier access to accurate information, adding, “Plant-based foods will now be offered with a wider variety of products in Turkey. This regulation will not only make it easier for consumers to make informed choices but is also a valuable step in helping them realize how important these choices are for a sustainable future. Plant-based foods are not just an alternative; they are also part of a healthy, environmentally friendly, and modern lifestyle.”
